In July 2007 my mother Lillian Jurmu Bower, suffered a catastrophic stroke while we were on holidays visiting her home town in the UP. She was taken to the Keweenaw hospital where Dr Lanczy was attending physician. There she slipped quietly into the waiting arms.of her Saviour. Dr Lanczy recognized her family name and realized his neighbour was her nephew. He came out to the waiting room and spoke so gently to my devastated father, put his arm around his shoulder and wept with him. It touched me deeply and i have never forgotten that act of genuine, profound compassion.
I just today learned Dr Lanczy passed away and am so sorry for your family's loss. May you be comforted by the prayers of many whose lives were touched by this remarkable man.

Bela lived next door to me in Michigan Tech's Wadsworth Hall when we were both freshmen. Very sorry to hear of his passing, which I learned of through the MTU website. I lost touch with Bela after leaving Tech, but was delighted to learn that he had attained his goal of becoming doctor. I remember that was something that was very important to him. There were a number of guys on our floor that were pre-med and a lot of them struggled with the very tough course load required. I've always remembered one of them telling me he expected Bela to make it, because "he wants to be doctor more than anyone." I'm glad to find he was right. Rest in peace Bela. I haven't seen you since in more than 40 years, but the smile in that photo is the same one I remember. Congratulations on a life well lived and condolences to all of your loved ones.

I met Dr. Lanczy twice… once in Lanse and then in ColdWater where he was the ER physician. He mentored my daughter during her Residency. Meeting him was like I was meeting an old friend ! Such a wonderful person ! I will miss sending my greetings and receiving his answers ! My thoughts and prayers for the family….

I first met Bela when his parents bought the farm where my mother grew up, in Herman. Living only 1/4 mile apart we bonded instantly and also being classmates we spent a lot of time together. I remember fondly our trips into the woods in search of the whitetail. Many days spent on the farm harvesting hay for the horses. Fishing on the Silver river and just hanging around together. Then Bela and Lisa became inseparable once Bela got his driver's license. We lost touch throughout the years with us both moving away. But we renewed our friendship online and through phone calls. I would call him out of the blue when I'd be driving and we always had something to talk about. I know we talked only about a month ago before he got sick. I'll always miss being able to call him about nothing. Sadly missed. Deepest heartfelt condolences to the family.
