James T. “Jim” Mattson, Sr., age 86 of L’Anse, MI passed away Monday, March 1, 2021 at Marquette County Medical Care Facility in Ishpeming, MI. He was born in Laurium, MI on June 23, 1934 the son of the late Theodore E. and Margar Read Obituary
Sorry to hear about Jim passing. He was well respected in our small community, he was a close neighbor and friend. He was a coach for our boys. To the children, Jim, Sissy, Jody! Mark and Mike. We are so sorry for your loss. Sure you have fond memories of your father. Virg and Kathy
To all of Jim's family;
I was sadden to read of Jim's passing. Artie Engel always kept me appraised of how he was doing. I saw Mark a few years ago at Traverse City and would get an update. I try to get up to L'Anse every year especially since I started writing for the Sentinel again. I visited him at the house until he moved to Ishpeming. Our visits were wonderful, thanks to him. We were always good friends, starting in 1976 when I first came to L'anse. Although he was physically slowing down, he was sharp and we had great visits. He was among the reasons I enjoyed coming to L'anse and I miss our visits. "God's been good to me," he would always tell me. Now he's with the Lord. God's love and blessings to all of you.

Carol, Jody, Sissy and family, I was deeply saddened to learn of Jim's passing. Working for him was truly both an honor and a privilege. He was such a nice guy and was patient with all of us who worked for him. He will be missed by many. I'm sure you all have many great memories to help you through this trying time. My prayers and thoughts are with you all.

My condolences to the family of Coach Mattson. "Coach" was an inspiration and mentor for me when I attended L'Anse in the mid 60's. Since that time he has been a friend whom I shall miss greatly. I had many pleasant visits with Coach when I would be in L'Anse to visit my mother. Last time I saw him was in 2017 when I was home for my 50th reunion. I shall miss his spirit and good will. He was a special man in my life and stopping in to see him always made me feel better.
