I met John shortly after I started work at Fort Wilkins State Park. He was in charge of auditing the DNR accounts in the Western UP. He was more of a buddy to me than a higher level manager; he would always kid around. John retired from the Baraga Office just before I transferred to Baraga, 20 years ago. Through the years he often stopped in and I truly enjoyed his visits. I was happy that he could spend so many retirement years in good health, enjoying the outdoors that he loved.
