Reid Funeral Service Celebrates 25 Years

In the heart of L'Anse, Reid Funeral Service and Chapel has been a beacon of solace and support for countless families over the past 25 years. Established in 2000 by the late John L. "Jack" Reid and his wife, Betty Harrington Reid, the funeral home has grown into a trusted institution within the greater Baraga County area.
Jack Reid's journey began in Pontiac, MI. He acquired degrees in Mortuary Science from Wayne State University and (later in life) in Health Care Administration from the University of Michigan which helped enhance his skills and knowledge as a caregiver and funeral director.
Jack's working career also included a national sales trainer position with an international pharmaceutical firm and a supervisory role at General Motors. When moving to the Upper Peninsula, he continued serving his community by providing temporary coverage for many funeral homes.
Upon Jack’s passing in May of 2016, Dawn Supanich, Funeral/Cremation Service Associate/Office Coordinator, who has been with the funeral home since its opening 25 years ago, continues to be instrumental in the funeral home operations.
The business and its employees continue to serve the people by using the same motto that Jack Reid taught them. In Dawn's own words, "Jack always told us first and foremost to take care of the families we serve the way we would want to be taken care of if we lost someone. While we are a business, we prioritize supporting families during their most difficult times, just as Jack did. Jack's greatest satisfaction was helping families navigate the grieving process and ensuring their loved ones were honored with dignity. His commitment to the community and the families we serve is something we strive to uphold every day."

The Reid team, over the years, has expanded with the help of funeral directors, Harry Farley, his sons Tom and Ken, and grandson, Justin. The four have been instrumental in ensuring that the funeral home's tradition of excellence continues.
Dedicated associates are appreciated, including Skip Cangemi, Cory Frisk, Bruce Griffin, Scott Heikkinen, and former associates, the late Herman Heitunen (2010) and Dick Uthehner (2022), all of whom share(d) the Reid commitment of providing exceptional care.
The funeral home's success is measured by the quality of services provided and by the impact it has had on the community. This was recognized when Jack received a Sixty-Year Licensee Award in 2015 from the Michigan Funeral Directors Association honoring his devotion to the profession and his contributions to humanity.
The Reid Funeral Service and Chapel family would like to thank the community for their support. Reid Funeral Service and Chapel will continue to provide compassionate care and commitment for seamless, personalized services that honor the lives and legacies of those it will serve in the upcoming years.
