We never knew him as 'Dave', but as 'Larry'. Our friendship dates back to the late 50's, during our 'college' times. He always had a place and time for everyone. Truly a friend.

I was so sad to hear of Dave's passing. I remember him as such a kind person, and wish I had known him better. I knew him through he and Marcy's long friendship with my mom Jane, and one of my favorite memories was being invited to their house to see the contraption he had built to ride down to the river. As a kid, I'd never seen anything like it! He also took us hiking along a river, where we jumped off the rocks and swam. He loved his projects and the outdoors, and that's what impressed me the most; his commitment to preserving that beautiful area. My sympathies to Marcy, he will be missed.

I can't remember anymore how many years ago this was, but Toony would drag me up to go fish every spring-as I was honing my skills in "how to lose a fish". Dave was such a great teacher...."watch how I do it"...He seemed to float on the river and would pick fish out of holes that only he seemed to know existed under the swirling water. One day when we got there he had this big grin on and said he had to show us his new contraption that he built to get him up and down the bank of the river next to his home. It looked like something from another time, part tram, part trolley, mining car, old steel. Rube Goldberg. He told me to "hop" in-which for some reason I thought meant this was going to be a quick trip. We got in and (he was still grinning ear to ear)he started talking about how he built it. As always I was mesmerized by his thought processes for building things, but in the back of my mind I was wondering when we were going to take off. A few minutes later I realized we were, in fact, moving. What was remarkable was that it was SO SLOW you could barely tell! We were moving at the speed of molasses at -30F. I told him I was worried I might be a year older by the time we got to the bottom. That Grin got bigger. Looking back on that I am sure that was built at just the precise speed Dave wanted it to be-geologic. I think thats why he picked that beautiful spot on the river. He picked a place and a spot on the river of time that soothed his soul-and all those who visited him. I will miss him but I will forever know where I can go to find him floating on that river.

David was an invaluable member of the Ottawa Sportsmen's Club since 1996. I expect that his passion for the outdoors and for the care and restoration of the Huron River watershed rubbed off on quite a few people. I take pride in the Michigan Department of Natural Resources' Partners in Conservation Award to him in 2013. I will miss his deep voice at membership meetings, and now others will have to take his place to make or second motions! On behalf of the Ottawa Sportsmen's Club, our deep condolences to you, Marcy, and family!

The world is a better place because Dave was in it and I am a better person because of the limited time I was able to spend with Dave. His presence among us will be sorely missed but fondly remembered. Best wishes that those fond memories ease the grieving for all.
Dear Marcy and Family, I feel blessed to have met Dave and honored to have spent time with him on the river. I will miss his gentle laugh and smile and his passion for his “Bride” and protecting the Huron River. Geri
