VERNON “VERN” F. POUPORE, 81 of L’Anse, MI passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 24, 2012 at his home, surrounded by his family following a brief illness. He was born in a logging camp in Nadeau Twp., MI on June 9, 1930 the son of the late Rosario and Viola (Dessart) Poupore. Vernon attended school in Cook, MI. He served in the Michigan National Guard. Vernon began working for the Michigan DNR in1952 as a seasonal fire tower watchman. He later transferred to the position of heavy equipment operator until his retirement after 35 years of service. On April 7, 1953, Vernon married the love of his life, the former Barbara Pelon at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Manistique, MI. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, trapping, and spending time at his camp. Mr. Poupore is survived by his loving wife Barbara, son Donald (Judith) Poupore of Negaunee, daughters Patricia (Paul) Dove of L’Anse, and Bonny (Darin) Walendowski of Pelkie, 10 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren, brothers Gerard (Gail) Poupore of Cook, MI, and Francis (Joan) Poupore of Cloquet, MN, sisters Lorraine Vaughn of Manistique, and sister-in-law Eloise Poupore of Cook, MI. Several nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive. Mr. Poupore was preceded in death by brothers Joseph, “Toots”, and Bernard. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 31, 2012 from Sacred Heart Catholic Church, L’Anse with Father Antony, celebrant. Interment took place in the L’Anse Evergreen Cemetery.
