AILEEN E. OGER's Obituary
AILEEN E. OGER, 79, of Alston, MI. passed away at her residence Thursday morning, December 7, 2006 with her family by her side. She was born in Elo, MI. on February 15, 1927 daughter of the late Edward and Marie (Pantzare) Siivola. Aileen graduated from John A. Doelle High School in 1946. She married John Oger on August 30, 1946 in Kalispell, Montana. He preceded her in death on March 31, 1977. Aileen was a laundry technician at Baraga County Hospital for several years. Prior to her employment at the hospital Aileen was a professional seamstress specializing in embroidering and monogramming. In the 1940’s she played the accordion for dances and special occasions as well as her families entertainment. Aileen was a life member of the VFW Auxiliary Alston Post #7646. She had worked on the election committee for Laird Township, was a trustee on the Laird Township Board and she also had judged exhibits for the Baraga County Fair. Her interests included cooking, baking, traveling, photography, and flower gardening. She had a special love for dogs.
Aileen is survived by her loving children, Lawrence (Nancy) Oger of Alston, Steven Oger of Carbondale, CO., Jeannie (Roy) Gourneau of L'Anse, Rosanne (Bruce) Kuivinen of Alston, Debra (Richard) Herrala of Baraga, Teresa (William) Wanhala of Pelkie, and Annette (Jerry) Elmblad of Marquette, grandchildren, Raeanne, Tom, Tim, Rick, David, James, Katie, Diane, Kimberly, Bradley, Kelly, Elise, Candace, Briita, Anna, Maija, Ashley, and Stiig, 16 great-grandchildren, 1 niece, and 6 nephews. She is also survived by her devoted companion, Jim Hiltunen of Alston. Aileen was preceded in death by her son, Ronald in September of 1969, step-grandchild, Tommy Herrala, 1 sister, 3 brothers, 1 stepsister, and 2 stepbrothers.
Funeral services for Aileen were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, December 10, 2006 at the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L'Anse with Pastor John Autio officiating. Interment will take place in the Alston Cemetery. The family received friends at the funeral chapel on Sunday from 1 p.m. until time of the service. The VFW Auxiliary Alston Post #7646 conducted a service at 2:00 p.m. Memorials in Aileen's honor may be directed to the Copper Country Humane Society or Superior Home Nursing and Hospice. Following the service, the family invited friends to join them for fellowship and luncheon in the Harrington Gathering room, located at the funeral home. She weathered life with grace and a soft beauty.....
