ALBERT W. SPRUCE's Obituary
ALBERT W. SPRUCE, 94, of Lansing, MI., formerly of L'Anse passed away Tuesday, June 26, 2007 at Sparrow Health Center, Lansing following a lengthy illness. He was born in Baraga, MI. on July 10, 1912 son of the late William and Elizabeth (Porter) Spruce. Albert attended school at Mt. Pleasant Indian School until the 9th grade, he then moved back to Baraga and graduated from Baraga High School. He was employed with the Oldsmobile division of General Motors in Lansing as a shipping clerk until his retirement. Albert's wife Gladys preceded him in death in 1995. He was a member of Zeba Indian Mission United Methodist Church, Zeba, the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community, and the Fond Du Lac Indian Community. Albert had been very active in sports when he was younger. He was a published author; having written a book entitled "The Early Years"
Mr. Spruce is survived by his loving children, Betty (Carl) Dotts of Lansing, and Linda Austin of Flint, 11 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, many great great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews, stepchildren, step grandchildren and step great great grandchildren. Many extended family members also survive. He was preceded in death by 1 brother, and 1 sister.
Funeral services for Mr. Spruce were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 7, 2007 from the Zeba Indian Mission United Methodist Church, Zeba, MI. with Pastor John Henry officiating. Interment took place in the Pinery Cemetery, L'Anse, MI. The family received friends at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until time of the service.
