ANNIE USIMAKI's Obituary
Annie Usimaki, 91, of L'Anse, passed away Saturday, November 1, 2003 at Bayside Village, L'Anse, where she had been a resident for several years. Mrs. Usimaki was born September 9, 1912, in Victoria, Michigan, daughter of the late Jacob and Sofia (Paakki) Laitala. She attended schools in Victoria, Michigan. In November, 1934 she married Eino Usimaki in Ontonogan, MI. They later moved to Champion, MI. then spent 2 years in Pennsylvania, before moving to L'Anse in 1956. Mr. Usimaki preceded her in death on November 28, 1985. Annie was a homemaker where she raised her family and enjoyed cooking and baking. Mrs. Usimaki is survived by her loving sons, David (Veila) Usimaki of Houston, TX. and Richard (Nancy) Usimaki of L'Anse; 8 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; a brother,Ernie (Evie) Laitala of Ontonogan, MI.; sisters, Mandy Aho of Florida, Toini Spitala and Ina Craig, step-sisters, Fay Peila and Eva Nykanen all of the Detroit area. Numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by her brothers; Elmer, Eric and Joe Laitala and Alfred Anderson. Funeral services for Mrs. Usimaki were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 4, 2003 at the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L'Anse, with Pastor Leon Linquist officiating. Interment took place in the L'Anse Evergreen Cemetery. Friends called at the Funeral Chapel for one hour before the services on Tuesday.
