ANSEL E. ERICKSON's Obituary
ANSEL E. ERICKSON, 94, of Skanee passed away Wednesday, March 4, 2009 at Aspirus Keweenaw Memorial Hospital, Laurium. She had been a patient there for the past week. She was born in Skanee, MI. on January 7, 1915 the daughter of the late Joseph and Mabel (Longworth) Erickson. Ansel graduated from Skanee High School in 1933. In 1937 she married Lawrence Erickson in Skanee. He preceded her in death in 1994. Ansel worked in the kitchen and laundry department at the Baraga County Memorial Hospital, L'Anse until her retirement in 1977. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Skanee and was instrumental in the now popular church chicken dinners. She was also on the Skanee Cemetery Board, the Skanee School Board, the Arvon Twp. Historical Society and was a member of Eastern Star. Ansel enjoyed tending her vegetable and flower gardens, baking, cooking, and being outdoors. She loved watching the birds at her bird feeders.
Mrs. Erickson is survived by her loving children, Larry Erickson of Skanee, Roland Erickson of Skanee, and Nona Uren of L'Anse, 11 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and 5 great great grandchildren, sisters, Jean Wuormos of L'Anse, Loreen Eliason of Marquette, and Ethel (Ronald) Kovala of Skanee. Numerous nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews and cousins also survive. She was preceded in death by her two brothers, Norman and Glen.
Funeral services for Mrs. Erickson were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 7, 2009 at the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L'Anse with Pastor Judy Mattson officiating. Spring interment will take place in the Skanee Cemetery. The family received friends on Saturday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service. A Eastern Star service was held at 12 noon. Following the services, the family invited friends to join them for fellowship and a luncheon in the Harrington Gathering room, located at the funeral home. Memorials in Mrs. Erickson's honor may be directed to the Arvon Historical Society or the Skanee Cemetery. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
