BARBARA J. "BABS" LA BERGE's Obituary
BARBARA “BABS” J. LA BERGE , 87, of L'Anse, passed away Sunday, August 9, 2009 at Bayside Village, following a lengthy illness. She was born in L'Anse on September 19, 1921 the daughter of the late Euclid and Flora (Trudeau) LeDuc. Babs graduated from L'Anse High School in 1939. Following high school, Babs attended Northern Michigan University. She married Kenneth LaBerge at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, L'Anse on December 28, 1942. He preceded her in death on July 29, 1988. Babs had worked at the Bishop Barga Shrine for over 20 years. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the St. Christopher Circle, a former Welfare Board member and chaired the Baraga County Bereavement Group. Babs enjoyed traveling, having visited many countries around the world. She had a deep appreciation for nature, spending time outdoors and dearly loved her grandchildren.
Mrs. LaBerge is survived by her loving children, Peter (Mona) LaBerge of Menominee, Jacqueline (Patrick) Chamberlain of Skanee, Margaret (Kenneth) Peterson of Ishpeming, and Mary Jane LaBerge of San Pablo, CA., grandchildren, Tom, Mike, Jacquline, David, Jennifer, Andy, Holly, Heather, Kenny, Darcie, and Emily, great grandchildren, Ryan, Lyndsey, Steven, Kayla, Katie, Gabriel, Matthew, Mitchell, Jesse, Kaylee, Aiden, Mazzy, Nicholas, and Ryan. She was preceded in death by 3 sons, Duke, Tom, and Paul, grandson Jeffrey, and sisters Margaret, and Ruth “Sis” in 2007.
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 12, 2009 from Sacred Heart Catholic Church, L'Anse with Father Janusz Romanek, celebrant. Interment will take place in the L'Anse Evergreen Cemetery. The family received friends on Tuesday, August 11, 2009 at the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L'Anse from 6 until 8 p.m.and at the church on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass. Parish prayers were held at 7 p.m Tuesday evening at the funeral chapel.
