BARBARA L. HIETIKKO's Obituary
BARBARA L. HIETIKKO, 76, of Baraga, MI, passed away Monday evening, April 7, 2008 at the Mather Nursing Center in Ishpeming where she had been a resident for 2 months. She was born in Grand Rapids on January 8, 1932 the daughter of the late Everett and Grace (Barrows) Pearce. Barbara graduated from Baraga High School. She worked for a time as a clerk in real estate. Barbara married Waino Hietikko in Trout Creek, MI. on October 14, 1950. He preceded her in death on July 6, 2003. Barbara was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Baraga, the W.E.L.C.A. and the L'Anse-Baraga Red Hat Society. She was very active in various community clubs and organizations. In addition, she was an amateur painter, and enjoyed gardening, particularly flowers and quilting.
Mrs. Hietikko is survived by her loving family, sons, Ken Hietikko of Ishpeming, Brad Hietikko of Grand Rapids, MI. and Steven Hietikko of Baraga, grandchildren, Levi, and Brandon, and great grandchild, Mason, brother, Robert (Sue) Pearce, sister, Sarah (Marvin) Tolon of Grand Rapids, 1 sister-in-law, 4 nieces, a nephew and numerous cousins
A memorial funeral service for Mrs. Hietikko was held at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 19, 2008 from Holy Cross Lutheran Church with Pastor Scott Williams officiating. The family received friends at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until time of the service. Memorials in Mrs. Hietikko's honor may be directed to the Copper Country Humane Society. Envelopes will be available at the church
