BERNICE L. BORGEN's Obituary
BERNICE L. BORGEN, 92, of L'Anse passed away Monday, March 30, 2009 at Bayside Village, L'Anse where she was a resident. She was born Skanee, MI. on September 22, 1916 the daughter of the late Danford and Anne (Peterson) Emblad. Bernice graduated from Skanee High School in 1934. She married Christian Fredrick Borgen in 1937. He preceded her in death in 1991. Bernice was a member of United Lutheran Church, L'Anse and was a lifetime member of Eastern Star. She loved to cook, sew, make dolls and quilts.
Mrs. Borgen is survived by her loving children, Daniel (Karen) Borgen of Jamestown, N.C., Dale Borgen of L'Anse, Connie Lytikainen of L'Anse, and Bernadette (Edward) Funke of Campbell, CA, 11 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, brother, Clyde (Alyce) Emblad of Chassell, and sister, Rita (Doug) Brennen of L'Anse. Numerous nieces, and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by her infant son, sisters, Lou, and Frances, and brothers, Ray, Theodore and Homer.
A memorial service for Mrs. Borgen was held at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 2, 2009 at the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L'Anse with Pastor Judy Mattson officiating. Interment will take place in the Skanee Cemetery. The family greeted friends at the funeral chapel on Thursday from 6 p.m. until the time of the service. An Eastern Star service was held Thursday evening at 6:30 p.m. Following the services the family invited friends to join them for fellowship and a luncheon in the Harrington Gathering room, located at the funeral home.
