BETTY ANN GAFFNEY's Obituary
BETTY ANN GAFFNEY, 66, of L’Anse passed away Tuesday, September 28, 2004 at Baraga County Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. She was born in Ashland, WI. on July 24, 1938 daughter of the late Alf and Elizabeth (Dahlstrom) Tollefson. Following the death of her mother, Betty was raised by her adoptive parents Wilbert “Bib” and Alice Lambert. She graduated from L’Anse High School in 1956. Betty was married to John Gaffney on July 24, 1965 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, L’Anse. She was employed as a secretary and clerk for the Celotex Corp. in L’Anse for ten years. Betty was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and served on a variety of church organizations and activities. She enjoyed collecting angels, baking for bazaars and bake sales, making bread, doing crafts, afghans, and beadwork. Mrs. Gaffney is survived by her loving children, Patrick Gaffney of Sanford, MI., Michael (Paula) Gaffney of Minneapolis, MN., Melanie (Michael) Wightman of Lansing, MI. and Mary Gaffney of Chippawa Falls, WI., grandchildren, Samantha, Anastasia, Austin and Alec ,and a brother, Ronald Tollefson of Largo, Fl. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Bernard Lambert and Glenn Tollefson.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 2, 2004 from Sacred Heart Catholic Church, L’Anse with Father Antony, celebrant. Interment took place in the Evergreen Cemetery. The family received friends on Friday, October 1, 2004 from 6 until 8 p.m. at the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse and 1 hour prior to the Mass on Saturday at the church. A parish prayer service was held Friday evening in the funeral chapel at 7:30 p.m. The Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse has been entrusted with arrangements.
