BETTY LOUISE STROUBE's Obituary
BETTY LOUISE STROUBE, age 87, of L’Anse, passed away Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at Baraga County Memorial Hospital, L’Anse. She had been a resident of Bayside Village, L’Anse since April of 2011. Betty was born on February 13, 1924 in Portland, Indiana, the daughter of the late Charles and Ruth (Darby) Beeler. She graduated from Portland High School in 1942.
Betty accompanied the father of her children, John A. Stroube, through an active tour of duty in the U.S. Air force and onto medical school at Indiana University before arriving in L’Anse in June of 1953.
Betty was a very active civic member of the community of L’Anse, participating in many philanthropic projects as well as the Lakeside Singers. She thoroughly supported the L’Anse public schools and became a Girl Scout leader at that time. Betty was very committed to raising her four daughters of whom she was very proud. She attended Suomi College in 1975 and earned an Associate Degree in Business.
Betty was a faithful and committed member of the L’Anse United Methodist Church for over 50 years serving on the Altar Guild and singing in the choir for over four decades.
Betty will best be remembered for her thoughtfulness and generosity to others.
She will be sadly missed by her daughters, Katherine (Ernest) Kunick, Rebecca Stroube, Sara Stroube, and Ginger (Bob Perreault) Stroube, beloved grandson Jason Kunick, one nephew Jim Beeler, one niece Judy Avery, and great nieces and nephews. Betty was preceded in death by an infant son John Dyke Stroube and her brother Clyde Beeler.
A memorial funeral service for Betty was held Wednesday, August 31, 2011 at 11 am from the L’Anse United Methodist Church with Pastor Steve Rhoades officiating. The family received friends at the church on Wednesday from 10 am until the time of the service. Interment took place in the L’Anse Evergreen Cemetery. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy the family suggests memorials in Betty’s honor be directed to the L’Anse United Methodist Church building fund.
