BOHDAN ZASADNYJ's Obituary
BOHDAN ZASADNYJ, 64, of L’Anse, passed away Saturday, May 7, 2011, at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He had been in ill health for some time. He was born in Bad Worishofen, Germany on June 14, 1946 the son of the late John and Sophie (Cachniw) Zasadnyj. Bohdan graduated from Windham High School in Connecticut. Following graduation he enlisted in the US Air Force and was an aircraft mechanic in the 62nd Fighter Interceptor Squadron. He then attended NMU and received a BS in Nuclear Physics in 1971. He married the former Shirley Gauthier at Blessed Kateri Tekawitha Church, Zeba on June 26, 1971. Bohdan had been a tribal conservation officer and was in the satellite business. He taught computer classes at KBOCC, Gogebic College, Baraga High School and Soumi College. He currently was employed by KBIC as a computer system analyst. Bohdan was a member of Holy Name of Jesus Church, Assinins He enjoyed camping, computers, football, Yukon basketball, and was a Redwings hockey fan. Bohdan also enjoyed going to the casino, and sampling beer.
Mr. Zasadnyj is survived by his loving wife Shirley, son Dave (Lisa) Zasadnyj of L’Anse, daughter Christie (Bruce) Velmer of Negaunee, grandchildren Casandra, Paige, Jordan, and Brayden, brother Walter Zasadnyj of Connecticut, and sister Vera Zasadnyj of Connecticut Several nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family members also survive.
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church, Assinins, with Father Brian Gerber, celebrant. Interment will take place in Assinins Cemetery, Assinins. Visitation was held on Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the Mass. The veterans of Baraga County under the direction of the American Legion Post 444 conducted military honors at 10:30 a.m. at the church. Following the Mass the family invited friends to join them for fellowship and a luncheon at the Ojibwa Senior Citizens Center, Baraga.
