CALVIN JOHNSON's Obituary
CALVIN JOHNSON, 92, of L'Anse, passed away Wednesday, January 7, 2004 at Bayside Village where he had been a patient for several years. He was born in Hancock, MI. on September 11, 1911 son of the late Fred and Kate (Kyllonen) Johnson. On July 12, 1940 he married the former Irene Ahonen in Detroit, MI. She preceded him in death on September 2, 2002. Mr. Johnson served in the Navy during WWII as Yeoman 1st Class in the SeaBees, with duty overseas in the Pacific Theater. Calvin was a member of United Lutheran Church, L’Anse and the American Legion Wm. McGlue Post 144, L'Anse. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing. Mr. Johnson was employed by the Canadian-Pacific railroad for over 37 years. Prior to his retirement, he was manager of the railroad’s Milwaukee office for over 18 years.
Mr. Johnson is survived by his brothers, Fritz Johnson of Florida and Bob Johnson of L'Anse, nephews, Karl, Kurt, Bob and Donald, nieces, Joyce, Kathy, Linda, Sandra and Aurelia. Other family members also survive. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers and 2 sisters.
Funeral services for Mr. Johnson were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 13, 2004 from United Lutheran Church, L'Anse with Pastor Leon Linquist officiating. Spring interment will take place in the Lakeside Cemetery, Hancock. The family received friends on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until time of service. Baraga County Area Veterans conducted a military service at 10:30 a.m. Following the services, the family invited friends to join them for fellowship and luncheon at the church. Memorials in Mr. Johnson's honor may be directed to United Lutheran Church, L'Anse. The Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L'Anse has been entrusted with funeral arrangements.
