CARL E. NURMI's Obituary
CARL E. NURMI, 62, of Watton passed away Saturday, February 16, 2008 at St. Vincent's Hospital in Green Bay, Wisconsin. He was born on July 10, 1945 in Bruce Crossing, the son of Emil and Mayme (Hiitola) Nurmi. Carl attended school in Painsville. He worked at CCI in the maintenance department. Carl married the former Barbara Torma in Marquette on June 11, 1966. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, Covington, and had been a fireman and former fire chief for the Covington Fire Department. Carl was an excellent auto mechanic, was a Green Bay Packer fan, enjoyed hunting, fishing, and baseball. He was a gifted guitar player, and enjoyed dancing. His greatest joy were his grandchildren.
Mr. Nurmi is survived by his loving wife, Barbara, children, Amy (Dennis) McCarthy of Nashville, IN., Peggy (Donald) Grosso of Watersmeet, MI., and Elizabeth (Ron) Risku of Watton, 6 grandchildren, Cheyanne, Shaun, Paige, Dylan, Katelyn, and Bodey, mother, Mayme Nurmi of Bruce Crossing, brothers, George, Roy, and Michael Nurmi all of Bruce Crossing, sister, Edith (Bill) Newby of Maryville, TN., uncle Bert (Ruth Ann) Nurmi, nieces, and nephews, Laura, Peter, Elijah, Steven, Jennifer, and Brandy, sisters-in-law, Mary Gibson and Lorraine Anderson, and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his father, Emil.
Funeral services for Mr. Nurmi were held at 11 a.m. Friday, February 22, 2008 from Trinity Lutheran Church, Covington with Pastor Mark Reinsch officiating. Spring interment will take place in the Covington Cemetery. The family greeted friends on Thursday, February 21, 2008 from 6 until 8 p.m. at the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L'Anse and for 1 hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.
