CATHERINE E. "CATHY" NEWLAND's Obituary
CATHERINE E. “CATHY” NEWLAND, age 47, of L’Anse passed away suddenly on Thursday, February 21, 2013. She was born in L’Anse on November 2, 1965 the daughter of William and Elizabeth (Nopola) Turner. Cathy graduated from L’Anse High School in 1983, and was a graduate of Green Bay School of Cosmetology. She married James “Jim” Newland at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, L’Anse on September 28, 1991. Cathy had worked at Local Roofing, L’Anse as the secretary, was the L’Anse director for the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and currently ran the composition department at the L’Anse Sentinel. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, L’Anse. Cathy was an outdoors person, enjoying hiking, snowshoeing, fishing, hunting, gardening and photography was a special hobby of hers. She did several wildlife surveys and tree sales for the US Soil Conservation Service. In addition, Cathy did periodic newspaper articles about the outdoors for the L’Anse Sentinel.
Mrs. Newland is survived by her husband James “Jim” Newland of L’Anse, son Carson J. Newland of L’Anse, parents William “Bill” and Elizabeth Turner of L’Anse, brother Michael Turner of L’Anse, sisters Lisa (Mike) Philip of Naples, FL. and Michelle Turner of Marquette, and father and mother in law Jim and Sharon Newland of L'Anse. Numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family members also survive. She was preceded in death by her grandparents.
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, February 27, 2013 from Sacred Heart Catholic Church, L’Anse with Father Brian Gerber, celebrant. Spring interment will take place in the L’Anse Evergreen Cemetery. The family greeted friends on Tuesday, February 26, 2013 from 5 until 8 p.m. at the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse. Deacon John Cadeau conducted a parish prayer service Tuesday evening at the funeral chapel at 7:45 p.m.
