CATHERINE MARY "KATE" HARRINGTON's Obituary
CATHERINE M. "KATE" HARRINGTON, 82, of '’Anse, passed away Tuesday, April 24, 2007 at Baraga County Memorial Hospital. She had been in ill health for several months. Kate was born in Kenosha, WI. on October 15, 1924 daughter of the late Theodore and Mary (Hand) Brus. She attended school in Baraga and graduated in 1942. Kate moved to Detroit and worked as a "Rosie the Riveter" at Hudson Motor Aircraft Co. during WWII. She married Earl Harrington on November 8, 1945 at St. Phillips Church in Detroit. Kate and Earl raised their family in St. Clair Shores. While living in the Shores she was involved in the formation of St. Angeles Parish and was a Den Leader of Cub Scouts for years. She and Earl retired to L'Anse in 1990. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, L'Anse and was actively working with the Knights of Columbus. Kate was a former member of the L'Anse American Legion Post 144. Her main hobby consisted of going to and having garage sales. Kate was always a willing worker and volunteer for anyone needing help in the community.
Mrs. Harrington is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Earl, children, Bob (Deanna) Harrington of Marquette, Mary Kay Harrington of Marquette, Pat Harrington of Goodrich, MI. and Mike (Nancy) Harrington of Holly, MI., 14 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, sister, Karen of Tampa, sisters-in-law, Rita Brus of St. Clair Shores, Maxine Brus of Long Lake, MI., Myra Ellico of Colorado, Lois (Felix) Mickus of Sun City West, AZ, Betty (Jack) Reid of L'Anse, and brother-in-law, Jerry Harrington of Skanee. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. She was preceded in death by her sons, John, and Jim, brothers, Bob, and Jim and sister, Mary Lou.
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 28, 2007 from Sacred Heart Catholic Church, L'Anse with Father Augustin George, celebrant. Interment took place in the L'Anse Evergreen Cemetery. The family received friends on Friday, April 27, 2007 from 6 until 8 p.m. at the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse and for 1 hour prior to the Mass at church on Saturday. Friday evening a parish prayer service was held at 6:30 p.m. in the funeral chapel. Memorials in Kate's honor may be directed to St. Vincent DePaul or Sacred Heart Catholic School. Envelopes were available at the funeral chapel and church. The Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L'Anse has been entrusted with arrangements.
