Cecelia Grace Owens' Obituary
Cecelia G. Owens, age 89 of Baraga, MI passed away Monday, April 28, 2025 at her home with her loving family by her side. She was born in L’Anse, MI on February 5, 1936 the daughter of the late Harry and Virginia (Asher) Crebassa. She moved to Milwaukee at the age of 16 to work, later moving back to L’Anse to take care of her mother. Cecelia raised her 6 children on her own after being widowed. She had worked as a cook, had owned her own bar and retired from the Bears Den Restaurant. Cecelia was a member of Most Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church, Keweenaw Bay Indian Community and the Ojibwa Senior Citizens Center, Baraga. She enjoyed playing bingo, going to the casino, sewing quilts and blankets, doing word searches, and she loved being Mom, Grandma, and Great Grandma.
Cecelia is survived by her loving children, JoEllen (Sam) Hornish of Defiance, Ohio, Randy (Heidi) Owens of Baraga, Tina Owens of Baraga, Jeff (Aimee) Owens of L’Anse, and Stephanie (Jeff) Holland of Emporia, Kansas, 9 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren, and her fur baby Paco aka “Babies”.
Cecelia was preceded in death by her son Dean Butala, her parents, her 6 sisters, and her 2 brothers.
Interment will take place at 12 p.m. on Saturday, July 12, 2025 in the L’Anse Evergreen Cemetery.
The Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse has been entrusted with the funeral arrangements.
