CHARLES E. FREEMAN's Obituary
CHARLES E. FREEMAN, age 91, of Herman, MI. passed away Wednesday, August 10, 2011 at his home following a period of ill health with his family at his side. He was born in Toronto, Canada on December 14, 1919 the son of the late Frederick and Vivian (Pledger) Freeman. Charles attended Detroit area schools. He married Helmi Moilanen in Detroit on November 26, 1938. She preceded him in death. He was employed as a tool and die maker for several companies in the Detroit area, retiring in 1985 from the Liberty Tool Company. Charles served in the US Army during WWII as a paratrooper serving in the European Theater of Operations and was awarded the Bronze Battle Star. He was a member of the L’Anse Eagle Club #2287, and a lifetime member of the L’Anse VFW #3897. He was an avid fishing and hunting fan, and a devoted Redwings and Lions fan. Charles was very patriotic and represented his families 3rd generation of servicemen.
Mr. Freeman is survived by his loving daughters Judith A. (Kenneth) Haney of Walled Lake, MI. and Jeanette (Bob) Smith of Copperas Cove, TX, grandchildren Lise Greenlee, Debbie (Brent) McKinney, Karen (Heath) Culbertson, Tani (Mike) Mough, Christopher Haney, and Lana (Paul) Coder, 12 great grandchildren, brother Don Freeman of Auburn Hills, MI, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by 2 great grandsons, Michael and B.J., 4 brothers, and 4 sisters.
A graveside military service will take place in the Herman Cemetery.
