CHARLOTTE L. KOTILA's Obituary
CHARLOTTE L. KOTILA , age 104, passed away Sunday, August 31, 2008 at Aspen Ridge Retirement Village in Gaylord, MI. She was born in Manistique, MI. on December 1, 1903 the daughter of the late Donald and Delia (Donais) MacPhail. Charlotte graduated from Manistique High School and earned her teaching degree from Central Michigan University. On August 13, 1931 she married Francis Kotila in L'Anse. He preceded her in death. Charlotte taught grade school in L'Anse at C.J. Sullivan School, retiring after 26 years of service. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, L'Anse and the Altar Society. Charlotte enjoyed sewing, reading, word puzzles and letter writing.
Mrs. Kotila is survived by her loving daughter, Karen (Jim) Daust, grandchildren, Mary (Mark) McDaniel, Tim (Beth) Daust, Michael (Lisa) Daust and Kathleen Daust, and 9 great grandchildren. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by 2 brothers, and 2 sisters.
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, September 5, 2008 from Sacred Heart Catholic Church, L'Anse with Father Augustin George , celebrant. The family received friends at the church on Friday from 10 a.m until time of the Mass. Interment will take place in the L'Anse Evergreen Cemetery. Memorials in Mrs. Kotila's honor may be directed to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, L'Anse or Hospice of Michigan. Envelopes are available at the funeral chapel.
