CLAYTON C. AUGER's Obituary
CLAYTON C. AUGER, 82, of L'Anse, passed away Sunday, July 6, 2008 at Baraga County Memorial Hospital, L'Anse where he had been a patient for a week. He was born in Ripley, MI. on September 12, 1925 the son of the late Charles and Agatha (Wilson) Auger. Clayton graduated from L'Anse High School in 1943 and the attended the former Soumi College in Hancock. He proudly served in the US Army during WWII with the rank of sergeant in the 97th Sig. Corp. In 1951 Clayton married the former Marcella Newland in Colorado Springs, CO. He was employed as a mail carrier and clerk for the U.S. Postal Service. Clayton was a member of the United Methodist Church, L'Anse, the L'Anse VFW Post #3897 and the L'Anse American Legion Post 144. He was also a former member of the L'Anse Public Library Board. Clayton enjoyed bowling, golfing, watching the Tigers and was an avid reader. His true calling was woodworking. Clayton had the natural ability to create beautiful wood objects and furniture with his hands.
Mr. Auger is survived by his loving wife, Marcella, daughters, Norma (Art) Tessmer of Pickford, MI., Jane (Joseph) Darcy of Marquette, and Robin (Charles) Harrier of Montague, MI., 8 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and sister, Marilyn Hofbauer of Ionia, MI. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his brother, Calvin, and sisters, Winifred, Jean, and Charlotte.
A memorial service for Mr. Auger was held at 1 p.m., Thursday, July 10, 2008 from the United Methodist Church, L'Anse with Pastor John Henry officiating. Interment took place in the L'Anse Evergreen Cemetery. The family greeted friends at the church on Thursday from 12 noon until time of the service. Baraga County Area Veterans, under the direction of the Baraga American Legion Post 444 conducted a military service at 12:30 p.m. The family suggests memorials to the L'Anse Library fund or the United Methodist Church.
