CONRAD W. LAPLANTE's Obituary
CONRAD W. LAPLANTE, age 53, of Baraga passed away Saturday, November 23, 2013. He was born in L’Anse on March 30, 1960 the son of Anthony “Tony” LaPlante Sr. and the late Ilene (Miller) LaPlante. Conrad attended schools in Baraga. On July 30, 2005 he married Nicole Bemis in Baraga. Conrad had worked in the maintenance department at Baraga State Park and was employed at the Baraga Ojibwa Casino for the past 28 years, most recently as surveillance manager. He was a member of Holy Name of Jesus Church, former member of Baraga Housing Commission, and was a retired Baraga Fireman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, cooking, reading, and spending time with his daughter “Heidi Bird.”
Mr. LaPlante is survived by his wife Nicole, daughter Heidi, step daughter Linnea both at home, father Tony LaPlante, Sr of Baraga, brothers Tony (Debbie) LaPlante of Sault St. Marie, Tom (Tracy) LaPlante of Baraga, sisters Clara (Donald) Chosa of Baraga, and Patty (Paul) Paavola of Elo, special aunts Irene, and Kathy and aunts Marion Bennett, and Helen Stein. Numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, and other family members also survive. He was preceded in death by his mother, brother Kurt, and nephew Travis Seppanen.
Funeral services for Mr. LaPlante were held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, November 27, 2013 at the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse with Pastor Judy Mattson officiating. The family greeted friends at the funeral chapel on Tuesday, November 26, 2013 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. and on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Following the funeral service, the family invited friends to join them for fellowship and a luncheon in the Harrington Gathering Room, located at the funeral chapel.
