DANIEL A. LAZZARI's Obituary
DANIEL A. LAZZARI, SR., age 92, of L’Anse, MI passed into God’s loving mercy on Thursday, May 24, 2012 at Bayside Village following a brief illness. He was born on June 14, 1919 in Franklin Mine Location, MI , the son of the late Alfred and Angelina (Monticello) Lazzari and was raised in Hancock. He graduated from Hancock High School and attended Suomi College. On May 27, 1948 he married the former Marion F. McKindles in Hancock, MI and together they raised their children in Hancock as well as in L’Anse. He was preceded in death by his wife Marion in 2010. Early in life, he worked at his parent’s grocery store in West Hancock and then had a very successful business career working in the banking community, ultimately retiring as Branch Manager and Vice President of Superior National Bank in Baraga, MI. after 35 years of service. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, L’Anse, the Knights of Columbus, Baraga Lions Club where he had been a past president, as well as a past member of the Sacred Heart Church council and Baraga County Federal Credit Union board. Dan was an avid fisherman and hunter; he thoroughly enjoyed bowling and golf and was a diehard Green Bay Packer fan. He cherished his wife Marion, loved and nurtured his entire family and stood humble before his Lord.
Mr. Lazzari is survived by his four children, Daniel A. “Tony” Lazzari, Jr. of Escanaba, MI, Stephen R. (Lynn) Lazzari of Green Bay, WI, Gregory G. (Karen) Lazzari of Watton, MI, and Mary A. (Larry) Gasperich of Iron Mountain, MI; grandchildren, Daniel III “Tony”, Christopher, Dominic, Sarah (Darren) Andrew, Stephanie (Aaron) Michelle, Michael (Lori) , Christina, Joseph (Megan), Emily, Elizabeth and two great grandchildren. Dan leaves behind one brother, George (Peg) Lazzari of Chassell, MI as well as several nieces, nephews and loved family members. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles and Edward and one sister, Salamina “Lela” Kahler.
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, May 29, 2012 from St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Baraga with Father John Longbucco, celebrant. Fellowship and a luncheon was held immediately following the Mass in the church hall. Interment took place in the Lakeside Cemetery, Hancock, MI. The family received friends on Monday, May 28, 2012 from 6 until 8 p.m. at the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse. A parish prayer service was held Monday evening at the funeral chapel at 7:30 p.m. Memorials in Mr. Lazzari’s honor may be directed to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, L’Anse or Sacred Heart Catholic School, L’Anse.
