DAVID N. GOUIN's Obituary
David N. Gouin, age 70, of Skanee, MI, passed away Monday, October 8, 2012 at the Veteran's Facility in Iron Mountain, MI. He was born in Cheboygan, MI on February 15, 1942 the son of the late Robert and Genevieve (Vieau) Gouin. David graduated from L'Anse High School in 1960. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, L'Anse. David joined the US Navy in 1975 and retired after 22 years of service. He married the former Martha "Marty" Murphy in Cadillac, MI on September 28, 1985. David enrolled in the Mercy School of Nursing in Cadillac, MI receiving his LPN certificate. He then enrolled in Northern Michigan University and received his BSN degree. David worked at the Jacobetti Home for Veterans and then worked at the Marquette County Health Department, retiring in 1995. He was a member of the Am-Vets, the Arvon Board of Review, and was the founder of the Arvon Bunny Club. David enjoyed building, and outdoor activities.
Mr. Gouin is survived by his loving wife Marty, sons Bob (Lisa) Gouin of Mt. Pleasant, MI, and Patrick (Terri) Gouin of Jacksonville, FL, daughter Terry Darr of Georgia, 6 grandchildren, sister Linda (Curt) Menard and step brother David (Doreen) Howard of Chicago. Several nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his son Jacques.
A memorial funeral service for Mr. Gouin was held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 13, 2012 from the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L'Anse with Father John Longbucco officiating. The family greeted friends at the funeral chapel on Saturday from 10:00 until the time of the service. Baraga County area veterans, under the direction of the Baraga American Legion Post #444 conducted military honors at the funeral chapel on Saturday at 10:30 a.m.
