Dennis J. Kytola's Obituary
Dennis John Kytola, aged 74, of Watton, passed away at his home following a long battle with cancer on Tuesday, October 20, 2020 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Watton on December 14, 1945 and was the son of the late Eino and Hilda (Rajala) Kytola. Dennis graduated from L'Anse High School in 1964. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He married the former Liisa Hatara in Covington on August 15, 1970. Dennis was employed at Cleveland Cliffs Iron Company as a plant repairman for 35 years until retirement. He was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Covington. Dennis was a very kind and caring man who enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren. He was always eager to help anyone in need and was a volunteer firefighter for Covington Township for several years. He enjoyed the great outdoors including hunting, fishing, and feeding the birds. He loved gardening and was a skilled carpenter. In 2017, Dennis traveled to Finland with his wife to connect with his roots and enjoyed meeting his distant relatives for the first time who very graciously welcomed them.
Dennis is survived by his loving wife, Liisa, and his children: Marvin (Yaya) Kytola of Apple Valley, MN, Melvin Kytola of Watton, and Melanie Kytola (Jack Sayed) of Novi, MI, grandchildren Victoria Kytola, Valorie Kytola, Alicia Sayed, and Sophia Sayed. He is also survived by his siblings, Marcy (Wilbert) Franti from Watton, Kenneth (Barbara) Kytola from Watton, Marilyn (Gordon) Koski from L'Anse, Marlene Orchard from Covington, and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Morris Kytola, and sister Margaret Leaf.
A memorial funeral service will take place at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 26, 2021 at the Covington Multi-Purpose Building in Covington, MI with Pastor Richard Little officiating. The family will greet friends at the multi-purpose building from 12 p.m. until the time of the service. Immediately following the service, interment will take place in the Covington Cemetery and then a luncheon will follow at the multi-purpose building.
