DOUGLAS P. BRENNEN's Obituary
DOUGLAS P. BRENNEN, age 85, of L’Anse, passed away Monday, December 26, 2011 at Baraga County Memorial Hospital, L’Anse. He was born in Danville, PA on September 10, 1926 the son of the late William and Charlotte (Leach) Brennen. Douglas graduated from Northumberland High School in 1944. He served in the US Army and was a decorated veteran of WWII. Douglas married the former Rita Elmblad in L’Anse in 1953. He worked in Kansas City, Tulsa, and Chicago for Continental Airlines for 22 years. He then worked as an inspector for Amtrak, retiring in 1989. He resided in L’Anse since 1990. Douglas was a member of the V.F.W. for 50 years, member of the American Legion, and the Ottawa Sportsman’s Club. He was interested in the stock market and economics and enjoyed reading, sports, doing yard work, and was an avid Green Bay Packer fan.
Mr. Brennen is survived by his loving wife Rita, son James (Debra) Brennen of Garland, TX, daughter Joanne Brennen of Rowlette, TX, and brother William J. Brennen, II of Northumberland, PA. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Mr. Brennen were held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, December 29, 2011 from the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse with Pastor Greg Mileski officiating. The family received friends at the funeral chapel on Thursday from 6 p.m. until the time of the service. Baraga County area veterans, under the direction of the Baraga American Legion Post #444 conducted military honors on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. Following the funeral service, the family invited friends to join them for fellowship and a light supper in the Harrington Gathering Room, located at the funeral chapel.
