EILEEN C. HOFBAUER's Obituary
EILEEN C. HOFBAUER, 84, of Ashland, WI., passed away Monday, February 26, 2007 at Forest Haven in Ashland, WI. She was born February 1, 1923 in Munising, MI. the daughter of the late George and Lillian (Emerie) Hofbauer. She graduated from L'Anse High School in 1941. She then attended and graduated from the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, MN and continued her studies at St. Scholastica and Marquette University in Milwaukee, WI to obtain a master's degree in nursing. Eileen taught and administered nursing programs at St. Scholastica for approximately 25 years, and Saint Benedict's College in St. Joseph, MN for 10 years. She started the ADN nursing program at Wisconsin Indianhead Technical College in Ashland, WI., retiring in 1988 after 15 years of service. Eileen was very dedicated to her profession of nursing, her students of nursing, and her religion.
Eileen was a member of the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community, The Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Ashland, WI, and former member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in L’Anse, MI.
Eileen is survived by four nephews, James of Washington, Thomas of Florida, Gerald of Michigan and Charles Hofbauer of Florida; three nieces, Mary Hofbauer Evans of Colorado, and Linda and Kris Hofbauer of Michigan; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Hofbauer of L'Anse, and Marilyn Hofbauer of Ionia, MI, and numerous great nieces and nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her two brothers, George and Roland Hofbauer.
A visitation will be held in Ashland, WI. on Wednesday, February 28, 2007 from 6 until 8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. at the Mountain Funeral Home in Ashland.
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 3, 2007 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, L'Anse with Father George Maki, celebrant. Spring interment will take place in the L'Anse Evergreen Cemetery. The family received friends at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until time of the Mass. The Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L'Anse has been entrusted with arrangements.
