ELEANOR M. KIVELA's Obituary
ELEANOR M. KIVELA, 80, of Covington, passed away at Marquette General Hospital, Friday, September 11, 2009. Eleanor was born September 3, 1929 in Covington, daughter of the late Carl and Mary (Godell) Saari. She attended school in Watton and graduated from the L'Anse High School in 1947. On November 6, 1948, she married Leo Kivela in Hancock, MI., and they made their home in Covington. Eleanor had many interests. She loved to travel and was proud to have visited all 50 states, Canada, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, and Finland. She was an avid walker and most of all cherished her family, especially her husband , Leo , of 61 years.
She is survived by the family she dearly loved, husband Leo, sons Alan (Jeanette) Kivela of Saudi Arabia, Rick (Marie) Kivela of Katy, TX., Mark (Pam) Kivela of Marshfield, WI.., daughter Elaine (Don) Grentz of Nisula, grandchildren Michelle, Carl, Jim, Jeff, Michael, Christy, Courtney, and Nicole, great-grandchildren Colin, Sienna, Carley, Knox, Jayme, and Molly, sister Alice (Vincent) Sanderfoot of Kimberly, WI, uncle Robert Godell, aunt Emma Anderson, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She is also survived by brothers-in-law Robert (Maureen) Kivela of Colgate, WI. and Marvin (Joyce) Kivela of Manitowash Waters, WI. Eleanor was preceded in death by a brother-in-law Art Kivela, and sisters-in-law Irene Jackowski and Vi Lahti.
A celebration of Eleanor's life was held Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at 12 noon from the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L'Anse. Pastor Mark Reinsch officiated and interment will take place in the Covington Cemetery. The family received friends at the funeral chapel from 11 a.m. until the time of the service. Following the service, the family invited friends to join them for fellowship and luncheon in the Harrington Gathering Room located at he funeral chapel.
