ELEANOR S. KALLIO's Obituary
ELEANOR S. KALLIO, 88, of L’Anse and formerly of Watton, Michigan passed away Tuesday, July 3,2007 at Bayside Village L’Anse following a lengthy illness. She had been a resident there for 2 years. Eleanor was born in Covington on July 11, 1918 daughter of the late Jonas and Emma (Sailynkangas) Visuri. She attended school in Covington and graduated from Kenton High School in 1936. In 1943 she married William Kallio. He preceded her in death. Eleanor had worked for a time as a nanny in Chicago and was employed at Chrysler Motors in Detroit supporting the war effort. She was a member of the Bethany Lutheran Church, the Covington Historical Society, and the Ladies Aid Society. Eleanor enjoyed gardening, reading, doing handiwork and traveling.
Mrs. Kallio is survived by her nephew, Richard Autio of Milwaukee, WI., nieces, Betty Perkins of L’Anse, Elsie Felix of Dearborn Heights, MI. and Marlene Orchard of Covington. Her cousins in Finland also survive. She was preceded in death by 9 brothers and sisters.
Funeral services for Mrs. Kallio were held at 1 p.m. Monday, July 9, 2007 at Bethany Lutheran Church, Covington, MI. with Pastor Marlin E. Snyder officiating. Interment took place in the Covington Cemetery. The family greeted friends at the church on Monday from 12 p.m. noon until time of the service. Memorials in Mrs. Kallio’s honor may be directed to the Bethany Lutheran Church fund. The Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse has been entrusted with arrangements.
