ELEANORE A. TAPANI's Obituary
ELEANORE A. TAPANI, 80, of Baraga, passed away Monday, January 5, 2004 at Baraga County Memorial Hospital where she had been a patient to 3 days. She was born in Hancock, MI. on February 20, 1923 daughter of the late Ivar and Anna (Kanninen) Helbacka. Eleanore attended Paavola Elementary and Hancock High Schools. In 1964 she married Edward Tapani in Hancock, MI. He preceded her in death in 1998. She was employed at Houghton County Medical Care Facility as an LPN until her retirement. Eleanore was a lifetime area resident. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, knitting, crochets and word games.
Mrs. Tapani is survived by her loving children, Richard (Pat) Johnson of Quincy, MI. and Dorothy (Bill) Fournier of Coon Rapids, MN. 7 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by 9 brothers and 2 sisters.
A memorial service for Mrs. Tapani was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 10, 2004 from the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse with Pastor Michael Laakko officiating. Spring interment will take place in the Lakeside Cemetery, Hancock. The family received friends Saturday morning from 10:30 a.m. until time of service. Following the service the family invited friends to join them for fellowship and refreshments in the Harrington Gathering room located at the funeral home.
