ELIZABETH (KAWIIDNAHQUAY) MILLER GALER's Obituary
ELIZABETH MILLER GALER (KAWIIDNAHQUAY), age 85, of L’Anse, MI passed away Saturday, March 31, 2012 at Baraga County Memorial Hospital, L’Anse following a short illness. She was born in L’Anse, MI on November 19, 1926, the daughter of the late Alfred and Maggie (Negaunee) Miller. Elizabeth spent most of her years in the Metro Detroit area, where she had met and married the late Richard Galer. After raising her 7 children she moved back to the area. She was a member of the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community, Holy Name of Jesus Church in Assinins, and the Ojibwa Senior Citizens. She enjoyed gardening, painting, and loved family get togethers, and spending time with her grandchildren.
Mrs. Galer is survived by her children Rosemary Lamberger of Garden City, MI, Gloria Galer of Ontonagon, Margaret (Peter) MacDonald of Sun City West, AZ, Diane (James) Czech of Harper Woods, MI, Doreen (Irvin) Smith of Baraga, Foster Galer of Baraga, and Robert Galer of L’Anse, 13 grandchildren, and16 great grandchildren. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Richard, and 2 grandsons Ronny D. Drinkard, and Darren D. Morgan.
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 4, 2012 from Holy Name of Jesus Church, Assinins, MI with Father John Longbucco, celebrant. Interment took place in the L’Anse Evergreen Cemetery. The family received friends on Tuesday, April 3, 2012 from 4 until 8 p.m. at the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse. A parish prayer service was held Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. in the funeral chapel. Following the interment at the cemetery on Wednesday, the family invited friends to join them for fellowship and a luncheon at the Ojibwa Senior Citizens Center, Baraga.
