Ellen E. Raymond's Obituary
Ellen E. Raymond age 94 of Baraga, passed away Sunday, February 22, 2015 at Baraga County Memorial Hospital, L’Anse, MI. She was born in Calumet, MI on July 1, 1920 the daughter of the late Charles and Hulda A. (Kivilahde) Koskinen. Ellen graduated from Baraga High School in 1938 as valedictorian of her class. She married Peter Raymond on August 15, 1946, and took part in his years of attending colleges. He preceded her in death on February 1, 2003. Ellen was employed at several jobs, telephone operator, Clements Insurance Agency, secretary to the manager of the former Celotex Corporation and the Department of Natural Resources. She was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Baraga, 4-H, Extension Club, American Legion Auxiliary, Hospital Auxiliary, financial secretary and treasurer for Holy Cross Lutheran Church for 15 years, and the American Bible Society. She enjoyed many crafts, sewing, quilting, she had made quilts for the needy, knitting, tatting, as well as other types of crafts. She was selected as Homemaker of the Year and won the award of outstanding exhibiter of the Baraga County Fair. Ellen was an avid bridge player for many years, enjoyed dancing and square dancing. She thoroughly enjoyed her family, especially her three little girls.
Ellen is survived by her daughter-in-law Cecilia Raymond of Milwaukee, grandson Tim Raymond of Milwaukee, granddaughter Allison (Mike) LeRoy and 3 great granddaughters Ellen Marie, Claire and Julia, brother Reverend Willard (Fran) Koskinen of Sterling Heights and sister Eva (Richard) Kakkuri of Berkley, MI. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. She was preceded in death by her husband Peter, son Charles, brothers Onnie, Wayne and Wilbert Koskinen, sisters Elma Mayo and Elvie Willette and various other family members.
A funeral service for Ellen was held at 11 a.m, Saturday, February 28, 2015 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Baraga with Pastor Julie BeLew officiating. The family greeted friends Friday, February 27, 2015 from 6 until 8 pm. at the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse and at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service. Following the funeral service the family invited friends to join them for fellowship and a luncheon in the church hall.
Spring interment will take place in the Baraga Cemetery.
