ELSIE E. WENTELA, age 89, of Nisula passed away at her residence on Monday, April 11, 2011 following a lengthy illness. She was born in Winona, MI. on October 23, 1921 the daughter of the late William and Elizabeth (Lahti) Tammela Read Obituary

My deepest sympathy to each of you for the loss of your beautiful, kind Mom. She was a great inspiration to all who knew her. I have fond memories of her from my childhood. Sorry I did not make it to the funeral - I just learned of it today. My thoughts and prayers go out to you all. May the Lord give each of you strength and comfort.
My sympathy to all of the family.I will remember the last visit with your mom. My mom Evelyn and sister Sue. Went and visited your mom about a year or so ago.We had such a nice time. I will also remember visiting as a kid, with grandpa & mummu Paavola. Your mom was a great person. I'm sorry I couldn't make it to the funeral.My thoughts and prayers are with you.

My late mother Mildred (Rasanen)Tashjian went to Baraga HS with Elsie. After her passing I came across a letter from Elsie and wrote to her. There was a family reunion in the UP and I asked Elsie to come and meet me there. She came and I was so taken with her energy and sharp mind. She had such a positive attitude and I was so impressed that she lived by herself in Nisula thru those long winters! I sent her a Finnish birth certificate of my great grandparents and Elsie was kind enough to translate it for me!
We exchanged a few more letters and I savored each one.
I only met her once but she left a lasting impression on me. Must be that Finnish love for the cold that keeps the mind and body so healthy.
I was very sad to hear of her passing. She was a wonderful person and was dearly loved by many.
My thoughts go to all who were fortunate to know this great woman!

My deepest sympathy in the loss of your mom. She was such a lovely person, so kind and caring. She will be missed by all her knew her. Everytime I saw her, she always called me "cousin" and said we were related but as many times as she explained it, I can't quite recall the connection though I don't doubt it. May your memories comfort you in your loss.

Our sympathy, thoughts and prayers go out to each one of you. Elsie was a good friend and such a wonderful, kind person. She loved her family dearly. We were enriched many times by her keen memory and very interesting stories. She was a real blessing. It is great to know she is with the Lord, Who died to save her. Thank you for caring for her so lovingly, attentively and tenderly in the home she loved. May the Lord draw near to comfort each of you.
