EVERETT J. GOLDEN's Obituary
EVERETT J. GOLDEN, 83, of L'Anse, passed away Sunday, August 2, 2009 at his residence. He was born in L'Anse on January 27, 1926 the son of the late Arthur and Agnes (Chaudier) Golden. Everett attended school in L'Anse. He was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Marine Corps during WWII. On February 27, 1947 he married the former Shirley Loosemore. She preceded him in death in 2005. Everett was employed as Superintendent for Baraga County Road Commission and retired in 1989 after 41 years of service. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the Military Order of the Purple Heart, L'Anse American Legion Post #144, Veteran's of Foreign Wars #3897, Marine Corps League Keweenaw Detachment #1016. Everett was a former member of the Michigan Road Builders Association, and was involved with the Golden Eagles Drum and Bugle Corps. He enjoyed doing the pasty sales at the L'Anse VFW, making crafts and attending craft shows.
Mr. Golden is survived by his children, Kathryn (Charles) Valitchka of Peshitgo, WI., James (Stephanie) Golden of Quinnesec, MI., and Deborah (Karl) Francis of Houghton, grandchildren, Bridget, Roy, Hanna, Jenny, Marria, Charles, and David, great grandchildren, Olivia, Brandy, Tyler, Elizabeth, Timothy Karrisa, Jacob, and Mackenzie, brothers Tony (Loretta) Golden of L'Anse and Phillip Golden of L'Anse, sister, Anne (Bill) Williams of L'Anse six step grandchildren, six step great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his son Paul, and brother Jim.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, August 7, 2009 from Sacred Heart Catholic Church, L'Anse with Father John Longbucco, celebrant. Following the Mass interment took place in the L'Anse Evergreen Cemetery with military honors conducted graveside. The family received friends at the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel on Thursday, August 6, 2009 from 6 until 9 p.m. Parish prayers were held Thursday evening at 7 p.m. Memorials in Mr. Golden's honor may be directed to the L'Anse High School Booster Club.
