Francis W. "Bill" Kantola's Obituary
Francis W. ”Bill” Kantola, age 80, of Covington, MI passed away Sunday, June 12, 2016 at Baraga County Memorial Hospital, L’Anse. He was born in Hancock, MI on January 1, 1936 the son of the late Emil John and Eva (Chaulkin) Kantola. Bill attended school in Covington and L’Anse. He served in the US Army. On May 25, 1973 Bill married the former Margaret Bera at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Farmington Hills. He had worked in the trucking industry as a furniture mover. Bill was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, Covington, Covington Amvets #1190, Covington Lions Club, the Covington Historical Society and was active with the Covington Parks and Recreation. He enjoyed watching westerns, fishing, hunting and singing. His favorite song was Candy Kisses.
Bill is survived by his loving wife Margaret, daughter Eva Kantola of Covington, sisters Ruth Selden of L’Anse and Helen Ketula of Culver City, Kentucky. Many nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his brothers Lawrence, Henry, Roy and Butch and sisters Shirley, Irene, Marie and Dorothy.
A visitation for Bill was held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 16, 2016 at the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse. Baraga county area veterans, under the direction of the Baraga American Legion Post #444 conducted military honors at the funeral chapel on Thursday at 12 noon. Immediately following the military service, the family invited friend to join them for fellowship and a luncheon at the Covington VFW #8945.
Spring interment with graveside services for Francis “Bill” and Margaret “Marg” Kantola will take place at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 29 , 2019 in the Covington Cemetery with Pastor Rich Little officiating.
The Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L'Anse has been entrusted with the funeral arrangements.
