GEORGE "DUTCH" LEE's Obituary
GEORGE E. "DUTCH" LEE, 84, of L'Anse passed away Tuesday, December 23, 2008 at Marquette General Hospital where he had been a patient for 1 month. He was born in L'Anse on September 30, 1924 the son of the late Oscar and Olga (Dorski) Lee. Dutch graduated from L'Anse High School in 1942. He sailed in the Merchant Marines, was transferred to the US Coast Guard and later served in the US Army. Dutch was then employed at Celotex in the maintenance until his retirement after 25 years. He was a member of United Lutheran Church, L'Anse, the L'Anse American Legion Post 144, Dutch married the former Vivian Paquette in L'Anse on August 21, 1954. She preceded him in death on March 19, 2003. Dutch enjoyed ice fishing, deer hunting, gardening, berry picking and going to the casino. He also liked attending sporting events and coffee klatching downtown.
Mr. Lee is survived by his loving daughters, Rosina Pertile and Debora Lee both of Marquette, grandchildren, Jennifer and Michael Pertile, brother, Edward Lee of L'Anse and sister, Rosemary Woodward of L'Anse and Sun City, Arizona. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by 1 brother and his son-in-law, Joseph.
Funeral services for Mr. Lee were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, December 27, 2008 at the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L'Anse with Pastor Judy Mattson officiating. Spring interment will take place in the L'Anse Evergreen Cemetery. The family received friends on Saturday morning from 10 a.m. until time of the service. Baraga County area veterans, under the direction of the Baraga American Legion Post 444 conducted military honors at 10:30 a.m. Following the service the family invited friends to join them for fellowship and a luncheon in the Harrington Gathering room, located at the funeral home.
