GEORGE A. STARK's Obituary
GEORGE A. STARK, 85, of Baraga, passed away suddenly at his residence Thursday, June 3, 2004. He was born in Baraga, MI. on October 30, 1918 son of the late Anthony and Mary Louise (Crebassa) Stark. George graduated from Baraga High School and Michigan Tech University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. During WWII George served with the 64th Bomb Squadron as a navigator aboard a B-24 and was a decorated veteran in the Pacific Theater. George was co-owner of the Baraga Telephone Company until his retirement in 1984. He enjoyed fishing and was the last survivor of the Camp Stole Hunting Camp. George also enjoyed playing cards including cribbage and was fond of the Casino games. He was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Baraga, the American Legion Post 444, Baraga and Keweenaw Bay Indian Community.
Mr. Stark is survived by his sister, Edith Lindgren of Zephrhills, FL. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by 3 brothers and 1 sister.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 7, 2004 from St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Baraga with Father Jamie Ziminski officiating. Interment took place in the Baraga Cemetery. The family received friends on Sunday, June 6, 2004 from 6 until 8 p.m. at the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse and for 1 hour prior to the services held at church on Monday. A parish prayer service was held at the funeral chapel Sunday evening at 7 p.m.
