Gerald E. "Jerry" Harrington's Obituary
Gerald E. “Jerry” Harrington age 91 of Skanee, MI passed away Tuesday, November 24, 2020 at Bayside Village, L’Anse. He was born in Hancock, MI on September 22, 1929 the son of the late John and Edna (Sibilsky) Harrington. Jerry graduated form L’Anse High School in 1947. Following graduation, he sailed the Great Lakes aboard the Ashley. He then joined the US Navy Naval Construction Battalion better known as the Navy Seabee’s during the Korean Conflict. After his honorable discharge, Jerry attended Michigan Tech for 1 year. He then owned and operated the Standard Oil Gas Station in L’Anse. Jerry had been employed with various companies as a plumber and pipe fitter then went to work in the woods and eventually built his home in Skanee. Jerry was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, L’Anse and the U.P Plumber, Pipefitter and HVAC Local 111. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, going to camp, making maple syrup at the Cedar Shack and was an avid Lions fan.
Jerry is survived by his loving sister Betty Reid of L’Anse, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sisters Myra Leemon Ellico and Lois Mickus and his brother Earl Harrington.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m., Friday, August 27, 2021 with Father Corey Litzner, celebrant. Immediately following the Mass, military honors and interment will be conducted in the L'Anse Evergreen Cemetery.
