GERALD I. "JERRY" LYTIKAINEN's Obituary
GERALD I. "JERRY" LYTIKAINEN, 67, of L'Anse, passed away Friday, December 30, 2005 at Baraga County Memorial Hospital following a lengthy illness. He was born in Hancock, MI. on January 9, 1938 son of the late Ivar and Senia (Keipela) Lytikainen. Jerry graduated from Baraga High School in 1956. He married the former Connie Borgen on June 28, 1958 at United Lutheran Church, L'Anse. Jerry worked in the general contracting industry as a plumber-pipefitter until his retirement in 2000. He also worked with his wife who owned the Sunshine Flower Shop until 2002. Jerry was a member of the United Lutheran Church, L'Anse, and the Pipefitters and Plumbers Union Local 506 and belonged to the Michigan National Guard until 1963. He also was a member of Masonic Lodge 547 F&AM and the Shriner Amed Temple, Marquette. Jerry was active in a number of leisure activities, including hunting, fishing, gardening, canning, and wine making. He looked forward to making maple syrup in the spring and had developed an interest in beekeeping.
Mr. Lytikainen is survived by his loving wife, Connie, children, Michael (Sandy) Lytikainen, Corie (Bill) Saarinen, and Thomas Lytikainen all of L'Anse, grandchildren, Christian, Benjamin, and Michael, sisters, Ruth Baker of Monarch Beach, CA., and Ann (Fred) Alspaugh of TN. and aunt, Martha Grant of Elo. Several nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his brother, Pete.
A memorial service for Mr. Lytikainen was held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, January 4, 2006 at the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L'Anse with Pastor Scott Williams officiating. Spring interment will take place on the family lot in the Keweenaw Bay Cemetery. The family received friends on Wednesday evening from 6 p.m. until time of the service. Following the service, the family invited friends to join them for fellowship and refreshments in the Harrington Gathering room, located at the funeral home. The Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L'Anse has been entrusted with arrangements.
