Gerald A. "Jerry" LaPlante's Obituary
Gerald A. "Jerry" LaPlante, age 88 of Baraga, MI, passed away Saturday, September 2, 2023 at Baraga County Memorial Hospital, L'Anse, MI. He was born in Keweenaw Bay, MI on March 16, 1935, the son of the late Arthur and Leora (Aubin) LaPlante. Jerry attended school in Baraga. He joined the United States Army and proudly served his country during the Korean War. Jerry had worked as a truck driver for various construction companies and retired from Lindberg Construction. He was a member of Most Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church, the Baraga American Legion Post #444, and the Covington Amvets. Jerry enjoyed the time he had spent with his horse “Missy”, hunting, fishing, baking cakes, and cooking for large groups including the community of Keweenaw Bay.
Jerry is survived by his loving daughter Michelle (Ronald) Eilola of Keweenaw Bay, grandchildren Sheena, Shiela, and Jesse, and great grandchildren Blake and Bryce. He was preceded in death by is parents, and his brother Arthur LaPlante.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, September 08, 2023 at the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse with Father Romeo officiating. The family will greet friends at the funeral home on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service. Immediately following the service, military honors and interment will take place in the Assinins Cemetery. A luncheon will be served at Baraga American Legion Post #444.
