GERALD R. MATTSON's Obituary
GERALD R. MATTSON, 64, of Pelkie passed away suddenly Saturday, February 10, 2007 at Munising Memorial Hospital, Munising, MI. He was born in Detroit, MI. on November 26, 1942 son of the late Ralph and Helmi (Koski) Mattson. Gerald attended school in Baraga and graduated in 1961. He was an over the road trucker for various trucking companies. Gerald most recently was a bus driver for the Baraga Area Schools until his retirement. He was a member of the Teamsters Local 328, a member and past president of the Otter Lake Sportsmen's Club in Tapiola, and the Otter Lake baseball team. Gerald was a member and past president of the Pelkie, Baraga, and L'Anse Hockey Association. He was also a member of the former Kyro Evangelical Church in Pelkie. Gerald enjoyed hockey, fishing, hunting, being in the outdoors and taking saunas. His greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren.
Mr. Mattson is survived by his loving children, Ralph (Rhonda) Mattson of Toledo, Ohio, and Craig (Tammy) Mattson of L'Anse, grandchild, Landen, step-grandchildren, Joslyn and Ricky, sisters, Nancy (Ralph) Turunen of Arnheim, Patricia (Paul) Tussing of Chassell, and Priscilla (Paul) Monette of Chassell, his loving companion, Ann Maki of Pelkie, and her children, Tina and Todd and grandchildren, Britney, Dallas, Hunter, Fabian, and Kylee. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Funeral services for Mr. Mattson were held at 1 p.m. Thursday, February 15, 2007 at the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L'Anse with Pastor Dean Franz officiating. Spring interment will take place in the Pelkie Cemetery. The family received friends at the funeral chapel on Wednesday, February 14, 2007 from 5 until 8 p.m. and for 1 hour prior to the service on Thursday. Following the service on Thursday, the family invited friends to join them for fellowship and luncheon in the Harrington Gathering room, located at the funeral home.
