GERALD R. McGLUE's Obituary
GERALD R. McGLUE, 89, of L’Anse passed away Saturday, October 2, 2004 at Baraga County Memorial Hospital following a lengthy illness. Mr. McGlue was born in Houghton, MI., March 18, 1915, son of the late William and Phoebe (Roberts) McGlue. Gerald and his family moved to L’Anse where he attended school. In 1938, he married the former Katherine Mahanna at the Sacred Heart Church in L’Anse. During WWII, Gerald served in the U.S. Army. He was stationed in the Pacific theater as a gunner corporal and participated in the battle of Luzon. Following his discharge, Gerald and his wife moved to California where they owned several businesses, including a dry cleaning establishment. Following the sale of the business, Gerald returned to L’Anse where he has resided for the last 12 years. Gerald was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic church in L’Anse, the V.F.W. Post 3897, the American Legion Post 144, in L’Anse and was a Past Grand Knight in the Kof C Lodge. Mr. McGlue is survived by his loving wife Katherine, a sister Kathleen Kokko of Ft. Bragg, CA., and several nieces and nephews. An infant daughter, 3 brothers and 5 sisters preceded him in death. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 5, 2004 at Sacred Heart Catholic church in L’Anse, with Father Chacko, celebrant and interment took place in the L’Anse Evergreen Cemetery. The family received friends for 1 hour on Tuesday at the church starting at 10 a.m. The Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse has been entrusted with the service arrangements.
