Gerard H. "Henry" Tangen Jr.'s Obituary
Gerard H. “Henry” Tangen, Jr., age 88, of Baraga, passed away Thursday, January 12, 2017 at Bayside Village, L’Anse, MI. Henry was born in Baraga, MI on October 26, 1928, the son of the late Gerard H. and Catherine (Martin) Tangen, Sr. Henry graduated from Baraga High School in 1947. On November 8, 1969 he married the former Alice L. (Paquette) Kinnunen in Baraga. She preceded him in death on April 25, 2006. Henry had worked as a welder for Tangen Cylinder Shop until his retirement. He enjoyed reading, watching sports, especially the Lions, Pistons and Red Wings. He liked to take rides and he loved tinkering in the garage. In his younger years he had bowled on numerous bowling leagues.
Henry is survived by his loving children, Christine (Darrell) Sturdevant of Suffolk, Virginia, Richard (Stephanie) Kinnunen of Frisco, Texas, Timothy Kinnunen of Watton, Thomas (Janet) Kinnunen of Sidnaw, Laurel Kinnunen of Baraga, Linda (Steve) Wood of Eagle River, WI and Bruce (Theresa) Tangen of Alston, 12 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at 12 noon on Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Baraga with Father Corey Litzner, celebrant. The family greeted friends at church on Tuesday from 11 a.m. until the time of the Mass. Immediately following Mass, the family invited friends to join them for fellowship and a luncheon in the church hall.
Spring interment will take place in the Baraga Cemetery.
