GERTRUDE L. BECK's Obituary
GERTRUDE LILLIAN BECK, age 88, of Askel, passed away at Bayside Village in L’Anse, Sunday, January 28, 2007. She was born on March 18, 1918 in Hancock, daughter of the late Aaro and Ida (Eilola) Paavola. Gertrude worked and lived in both Chicago and Detroit before returning to the Upper Peninsula in the late 1940’s. She was married to Arnold Beck, and together they farmed and raised their sons in Askel. Gertrude was preceded in eternal life by her loving husband, Arnold, in 1972. She earned her high school diploma in 1974. Gertrude worked for the Western Upper Peninsula District Health Department as a home health aide from the mid-1970’s until her retirement at age 70. She enjoyed visiting with the many people to whom she provided care and assistance during her tenure in the health department. Gertrude enjoyed reading and visiting with family and friends. She always offered visitors to her home a cup of coffee, something sweet to accompany it, and the opportunity to visit and share news and stories about friends, neighbors, and family.
Gertrude is the beloved mother of Charles (Karen) Beck of Dearborn, MI. and John (Darlene) Beck of Askel. She was a loving and devoted grandmother to Eric, Kristin (Chris Maxson) and Lauren. Gertrude was preceded in eternal life by her dear siblings; sister Elma, brother, John, half sister, Impi, and half brother Carl.
Funeral services for Mrs. Beck were held at 7 p.m. Friday, February 2, 2007 from Mission United Lutheran Church, Pelkie with Pastor John Autio officiating. Spring interment will take place in the Askel Cemetery. The family received friends at the church on Friday evening from 6 p.m. until time of the service. Memorials in Mrs. Beck’s honor may be directed to the Arthritis Foundation.
