GERTRUDE M. "GERT" KANTOLA's Obituary
GERTRUDE M. "GERT" KANTOLA, 86, of Covington, passed away in L’Anse, Sunday evening March 26, 2006 following a period of failing health. She was born in Ishpeming, MI. on February 3, 1920 daughter of the late Abraham and Alina (Sarranen) Tikkanen. Gert spent much of her early years in Herman and attended school there. She married Eino Kemppainen in 1937 and he preceded her in death in 1958. In 1991 she married Bernard “Roy” Kantola and he preceded her in death in 2002. Gert was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, Covington and the Ladies Aid Society. She was a devoted wife and mother and enjoyed being a homemaker.
Mrs. Kantola is survived by her loving son, Einar Kemppainen of Covington, grandsons, Michael and Brian Michell, and son-in-law Robert Michell all of Ishpeming, and good friend of the family, Judy Beauprey. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Beatrice, and son, David, 4 brothers, Andrew, Charles, George, and Oliver, and 5 sisters, Kate, Veera, Hilma, Eleanore, and Winnifred.
Funeral services for Mrs. Kantola were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 30, 2006 at the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse with Pastor Leon Linquist officiating. Spring interment will take place in the Covington Cemetery. The family received friends at the funeral chapel on Thursday from 10 a.m. until time of the service. The Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse has been entrusted with arrangements.
