GLORIA E. DARCY's Obituary
GLORIA E. DARCY, age 86, of Baraga, passed away Tuesday, November 8, 2011 at Bayside Village, L’Anse surrounded by her loving family. Gloria was born in Pequaming, MI on August 23, 1925 the daughter of the late Raymond and Ruth (Perry) VanAble. She attended school in Pequaming, L’Anse and Baraga, graduating from Baraga High School in 1976. Gloria married Joseph “Smuck” Darcy on May 23, 1945 at Holy Name of Jesus Church, Assinins, MI. She had many jobs but worked alongside her husband at the Darcy Paint Shop for many years. Gloria was active in the Baraga Fireman Auxiliary, Cub Scouts Den Mother, Pelkie Hockey Association, and St. Ann’s Rosary/Altar Society. She volunteered many hours at Sacred Heart Catholic School Hot Lunch Program when her grandchildren and great grandchildren attended school there. Grandma enjoyed spending time and taking care of all her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved baking, reading, and playing cards with them. She also loved spending time with her children.
Mrs. Darcy is survived by her two daughters Kathleen (George) Danielson of Baraga, and Linda (Larry) Elsner of Durand, WI, her two sons Joseph (Jane) Darcy of Marquette, and John (Heidi) Darcy of L’Anse, 10 grandchildren George Danielson, Kristine Paavola, Michele Donahue, Julie Parkila, Joseph and Jon Elsner, Darci Roesler, Kyle and Taylor Darcy, and Katelyn Darcy, 12 great grandchildren Adam and Erika Danielson, Daniel and Kristen Paavola, Anthony, Kathryn and Rebecca Danielson, Dustin and Jana Parkila, Madison Shepler and Isabella and Sophia Roesler, 2 sisters Francis Brunet of L’Anse, and Lily (Dudley) Seay of Huron Bay. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph of 53 years, her parents Raymond and Ruth VanAble, 2 brothers John and Raymond VanAbel, and 3 sisters Evelyn Cote, Margaret Soli, and Helen Eliason.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am, Saturday, November 12, 2011 from St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Baraga with Father Antony Lukka, celebrant. Interment will take place in the Baraga Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday from 9 am until the time of the Mass.
