GORDON A. JOLGREN's Obituary
GORDON A. JOLGREN, 79, of Pelkie passed away Friday, July 2, 2004 at Marquette General Hospital following a short illness. He was born in Chicago, IL. On March 4, 1925 son of the late Arthur and Lempi (Koski) Jolgren. Gordon attended the Papin School and graduated from high school in Detroit.During World War II, Gordon served in the U.S.Army as a mortar gunner with the anti-tank company 112th Infantry and saw action in France and the Rhineland campaigns. He married the former Anne Lahtela in Detroit in 1958. She preceded him in death on June 28, 1988. Gordon was employed as a warehouse supervisor for the Burroughs Machine Corporation in Plymouth, MI. until his retirement. He had been a resident in the Pelkie area for 21 years Gordon was a member of the Finnish Center in Livonia, a member and former commander of the Alston VFW Post 7646, Baraga American Legion Post 444, and the Ottawa Sportsman’s Club. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, was a big sports fan, including watching the Detroit Tigers,Lions and Red Wings play.
Mr. Jolgren is survived by his son, Bill (Pat) Jolgren of Livonia, MI. daughter, Lisa (Dale) Rolader of Livonia, grandson, Andrew, sister, Bernice Jameson of Hazel Park, MI. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Funeral services for Mr. Jolgren were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 8, 2004 from the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse with Rev. Thomas Wickstrom officiating. Interment took place in the Pelkie Cemetery. The family received friends on Wednesday, July 7, 2004 from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral chapel and for 1 hour prior to the service on Thursday. Baraga County Area Veterans, under the direction of the Baraga American Legion Post 444 conducted military honors on Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. in the chapel. Following the service on Thursday, friends were invited to join the family for fellowship and a luncheon at the Harrington Gathering room located at the funeral home.
